Originally the script was supposed to center on the two surviving characters from the first season of the original series called "Daryl and Carol", but actress Melissa Suzanne McBride, who played the role of Carol Peletier, a former housewife who lost her daughter, refused to continue filming. Directors of the new TV series were: Daniel Percival, Greg Nicotero and Tim Sowtham, and wrote the script: David Zabel and Angela Keng. Daryl Dixon remains at the helm of the story, a fan favorite and one of the most recognizable characters in the franchise, although the character did not appear in the original comics. The performer of the titular role, actor Norman Reedus, warned fans that the new project will be more of a "reboot."
The action of the spin-off takes place some time after the end of the original series. The plot of the post-apocalyptic horror series "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" centers on the titular character who has lost his memory and has absolutely no recollection of how he ended up in a large boat in the ocean off the coast of Europe. An unsociable Daryl who finds himself away from loved ones, and in order to remember some facts he records his experiences on a tape recorder. Realizing that he needs to survive in the new conditions Daryl will seek common language with strangers who managed to survive on the other side of the Atlantic, where the pandemic also happened. Together with a representative of a religious cult Isabel and an ambitious British merchant Quinn, the hero will search for himself and fight for survival in post-apocalyptic France. Having colossal experience in this matter, Daryl can adapt to any circumstances.
